Couched Constructions: Work Day 3

On Sunday Becca and I were able to meet with our professor Wes, who is curating the Couched Constructions Installation.  He welcomed us into the new space in which we would be working and gave us a 'space-warming' present of a sleeper sofa to deconstruct for our installation!

Some initial observations about the new sofa:

- It is quite heavy in comparison to the first couch. The folding sleeper portion is made of metal and seems to be the culprit in adding this extra weight.
- The overall construction of this couch is of considerable less quality than the first couch.  While we were working on removing the fabric, the entire frame rocks from side to side.
- The metal folding sleeper portion will most likely need to stay in the frame of the base of the couch to retain use of the folding mechanisms.
- This couch has considerable less wood in the frame than the first. This observation coupled with the quality notation suggests that construction of a couch may depend on how 'luxurious' the couch was originally intended to be.
